Writer's picture: Netecho WNetecho W

Description:

Small metal tag that was used to keep track of deceased information. Tags number 1400 and 1333. "Harlem Valley Mental Asylum Morgue Corpse" stamped into tags. Roughly 1 1/2 inches in Diameter.

Acquired:

Purchased from an Oddities Vendor on Etsy. Originally collected to add to my Oddities and haunting was later found afterwards.

Observed Phenomena:

The energy that is attached to these corpse tags seems to be Residual more than anything. When investigating with a ghost radio, once picked up cries can be heard. Things that seem to originate from a Mental Asylum. Then stopping once the tag is put down. More needs to be investigated to confirm if this is a Residual Haunting or something Intelligent.

History:

Harlem Valley Mental Asylum is located in Dover, New York. It ran as a mental hospital from 1924 to 1994. Originally started as the Wingdale Prison and later turned into a State Hospital, eventually closing down due to budget cuts. Sprawling across almost 900 acres and encompassing more than 80 buildings, the hospital had its own golf course, bowling alley, baseball field, bakery, and a massive dairy farm that supported an in-house ice cream parlour. At its peak, the facility housed 5,000 patients and 5,000 employees.

The location remained abandoned and a hot spot for Urban Explorers until 2014/15 when Olivet University began fixing the location and turning it into a campus.

During the time it was a Mental Asylum it catered mostly to the Criminally Insane. In the 1930s the Asylum gained fame as a pioneer in implementing the new treatment of electroshock therapy, and in the 1940s Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center became essentially the birthplace for Trans-orbital Lobotomy.

This is the location where neuropsychiatrist Walter Freeman began practicing what was sadly seen as a revolutionary procedure at the time, first invented by Portuguese neurologist António Egas Moniz who (under much controversy) won the Nobel Prize in 1949.

These Corpse tags where placed on the Deceased toe in order to keep track of identity and information.
